After Renee Winters discovers her parents lying dead in California’s Redwood Forest in what appears to be a strange double murder, her grandfather sends her off to Gottfried Academy in Maine, a remote and mysterious high school dedicated to philosophy, “crude sciences,” and Latin: the Language of the Dead. It’s here she meets Dante, a dark and elusive student to whom she feels inexplicably drawn.
As they get to know each other better, Dante can’t seem to control his attraction either, and their desires gradually deepen into a complex and dangerous romance. Dangerous because Dante is hiding a frightening secret. A secret so terrible, it has him fearing for Renee’s life.
Dante’s not the only one with secrets, though. Turns out Gottfried Academy has a few of its own… Like, how come students keep disappearing? Why are the prefect-like Monitors creeping around campus during the night? And what exactly are the Headmistress and Professors really up to? Renee is determined to find out why. Dead Beautiful is both a compelling romance and thought-provoking listen, bringing shocking new meaning to life, death, love, and the nature of the soul.
This book had me from the very first page. I was a sucker.
I was totally drawn into the story and Renee was an awesome main character. From the second she found her parents you knew she was different but I couldn’t tell how and that bugged me and now I know I want to scream because it was so obvious and that pisses me off.
When I normally go into a story like this I can normally guess where it was going and I feel so stupid not realised where this story was going. Yvonne dropped so many obvious hints throughout the story that you should know what was going on, what the main plot was or well one of the main plots was.
The writing was great and I loved all of the characters. There’s a lot of loose parts of the story that I am so hoping that get told in the next book because I just need to know. They are HUGE cliffhangers and that bugs me. There is so much more of this story to be told.
But damn you Yvonne that ending sucked so badly. It was one of the biggest cliffhangers of this story and I hated it. It annoyed me so much I need to know what is going on which is why I am now going to buy the next book.
