Only a true best friend can protect you from your immortal enemies . . .

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires - the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa's best friend, makes her a dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.

After two years of freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir's Academy, a school for vampire royalty and their guardians-to-be, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. But inside the iron gates, life is even more fraught with danger . . . and the Strigoi are always close by.

Rose and Lissa must navigate their dangerous world, confront the temptations of forbidden love, and never once let their guard down, lest the evil undead make Lissa one of them forever . . .

This book is so beautifully written. Richelle Mead should be proud.

I absolutely loved this book, It absorbed me and I just wanted to skip sleeping to read it.

I think Vampires are so overwritten and very cliche but this book is nothing like anything I have read. Yes it has Vampires but it’s not the Vampires people are so used to reading and that’s what makes this book better then other Vampire books.

The character’s in this book go through normal teenager struggles well minus the Vampire stuff, and it makes it so relatable. I remember being in school and being miss popular all for it to come crashing down one day due to bullying and jealousy. And that’s what the main character’s Rose and Lissa go though.

Without the magic and well the blood stuff it would be your fairly typical boarding school book but it’s not this book is more then that. There’s mystery and forbidden romance, or well forbidden feelings. It’s just such a good book that I will love in years to come and I can not wait for the next one.
